Obwohl SAP in den letzten Jahren mit SAPUI5 eine neues Programmierkonzept für das Frontend entwickelt hat, ist die bisher genutzte ABAP WebDynpro-Technologie nach wie vor ein adäquates Mittel, Inhalte eines SAP-Systems Anwendern einfach über das HTTP-Protokoll in einem Browser zur Verfügung zu stellen. Die begrenzte Auswahl der zur Verfügung stehenden UI-Elemente schränkt die Mittel des Entwicklers zwar etwas ein, bietet ihm im Gegensatz dazu aber die Möglichkeit, die Entwicklung schnell voranzutreiben.

Im Gegensatz zu SAPUI5 findet der komplette Entwicklungszyklus in der ABAP Workbench (der Transaktion SE80) statt. Auch ist ein WebDynpro komplett und direkt in das SAP-Transportsystem eingebunden.

Nach einer Einführung in den Zugriff auf ein SAP-System über das HTTP-Protokoll erhält der Lernende einen Einblick in die grundlegenden Bestandteile einer ABAP WebDynpro Component, ihre Layouts und ihre Controllerklassen. Der Kurs endet mit der Beschreibung einer einfachen Manipulation von Daten in einem WebDynpro.
