First Steps in SAP, second edition by Sydnie McConnell & Martin Munzel – Recommended for super users with little to no background in SAP. Provides a basic introduction for those just getting started with SAP. We recommend Chapter 2 for SAP basics including transactions, organizational units, and master data. Chapter 3 provides a high-level overview of the SAP product suite. Section 2.1.5 covers new developments in the SAP ERP user interface including SAP Personas, SAP Fiori, and SAP US Design Services.
SAP ERP User Guide – Tips to Increase Productivity by Sydnie McConnell – This SAP user guide provides tips to help users work with SAP ERP more efficiently and effectively and brings users up to speed on SAP terms including batch jobs, requests, authorizations, security roles, etc. Review Chapter 2 for navigation tips and Chapter 3 for integration best practices. Chapter 10 provides a quick reference guide with system function bar buttons, SAP menu buttons, command field entries and shortcuts, and selection and reporting buttons.
The SAP Material Master – a Practical Guide, second edition by Matt Johnson – This book covers material master concepts and how to tailor it. Chapter 2 provides information on material master structure and creating and accessing the material master. Chapter 4 defines material master screens and the fields within them. Readers can learn how basic information screens are used to establish a given material’s general characteristics. Recommended for more experienced SAP users including planners, production planners, and buy planners interested in understanding more about SAP Material Master and interested in ensuring that the item master and BOMs are set up correctly so that material flow properly and reflect the actual way that they come in.
First Steps in SAP Financial Accounting (FI) by Ann Cacciottolli – Provides an overview of SAP Financials functionality and ERP integration for novice SAP super users. Chapter 1 provides a basic introduction for those new to SAP FI. Chapters 3 and 4 are recommended for those getting started with A/R and A/P in SAP and includes information on reporting in each area.
First Steps in SAP Controlling (CO) by Ashish Sampat – This book provides an overview of SAP CO features and functions, month-end closing activities, and actual cost flows for novice SAP super users. Chapter 2 provides an overview of SAP CO, as well as links with FI and other SAP modules, as well as the differences between the FI and CO modules. Chapter 4 dives into SAP Controlling master data including cost centers, cost elements, activity types, SKFs, allocations, and internal orders. Chapter 9 will be of interest for those interested in month end close information.
First Steps in SAP Business Warehouse (BW) by Gerardo di Giuseppe – Provides a basic introduction to SAP Business Warehouse (BW) for those with little to no background in SAP BW. Chapter 1 covers an introduction to SAP BW 7.3 and Chapter 2 walks through basic objects in the SAP BW layer.
First Steps in the SAP Production Processes (PP) by Bjorn Weber –This book presents the basics of production planning in SAP ERP. Chapter 2 reviews planning concepts for PP and Chapter 3 dives into the master data required for planning. Chapter 4 explores materials planning including how when a requirement is recorded or created in a company, SAP ERP plans the production and procurement of this item from the end product to the raw material. Chapter 5 looks at shop floor control and explores for the planned production to be executed and monitored optimally, production orders have to be created. In addition, the book explains how production orders are set up, and how you can work with them effectively. This book is recommended for novice users as well as super users who need more information on production planning and its impact on other areas of SAP.
Beginner’s Guide to SAP Security and Authorizations by Tracy Juran – This book covers the basic architecture of SAP security and Authorizations and how to create users and assign roles. Chapters 1 and 2 provides an overview of user maintenance, roles, and role types. Includes tips on leveraging transaction SE16 and how to identify security roles and profiles that someone has already received. This book is recommended for super users who need a basic understanding of security and authorizations and need to have an understanding of authorizations in preparation for meetings with BASIS teams.
The Essential SAP Career Guide – Hitting the Ground Running by Tanya Duncan – Think ahead and plan the next step in your career. This book covers tips on an SAP job search and resumes. Chapters 2 and 3 include considerations for different types of SAP roles and jobs, as well as how to create a stand-out SAP resume and prepare for SAP interviews. Chapter 4 includes important terminology critical to SAP projects, deployments and implementations and Chapter 5 provides information on the SAP system landscape that you won’t find in most SAP training courses. Chapter 6 covers interviews with SAP professionals from diverse perspectives, including an SAP recruiter.
First Steps in SAP Fiori by Anurag Barua – Provides information on the new SAP user interface and explores SAP Fiori functionality, architecture, prerequisites, and technical components. This book is recommended for supers users interested in an introduction to new SAP user interfaces.
What on Earth is an SAP IDoc by Jelena Perfiljeva – Provides an overview of SAP IDocs and how they are used. Section 5.6 on IDoc processing and re-processing (BD87) will help super users troubleshoot and identify EDI-related issues. Additionally, this book provides information on SAP integration.
